With the shiny new Rollacoaster almost on shelves, we can reveal that soulful pop princess Alessia Cara is one of our latest cover stars! Shot by Ben Rayner, the cover couldn’t come at better time for Cara, who is following up last year’s sleeper hit “Here” with her newly released single and video, “Wild Things”.
Having stormed 2015 not just with that anti-social anthem “Here”, but also songs like “Overdose” and “Outlaws” (not to mention topping any number of lists including a second place on the BBC’s Sound of 2016 and finding firm fans in the form of Drake and Taylor Swift), Cara’s new video is a celebration of independence and fearlessness that you’re bound to hear everywhere over the next few months.
Another track about doing your own thing and going your own way, “Wild Things” features her and an enviable posse – who wouldn’t want to be in Cara’s crew? – adventuring round the city at night before heading into the woods for a bachannalian dance around a campfire. The visuals are the perfect embodiment of her give-a-fuck attitude and the ultimate antidote for today’s polished, selfie-obsessed pop scene. Take a watch and look out for Rolla: it’s coming!
