Mary Katrantzou’s psychadelic Greek goddesses rule the runway at LFW.

Greek Goddess

Mary Katrantzou goes back to her roots for her glorious, Grecian inspired collection. The Athens-born designer based the collection off of the ancient Minoan civilisation, who historians have long assumed used to be pretty much run by women. Taking inspiration from the ancient women’s historic girl power, Mary has moulded the models into Minoan goddesses, designing pieces with art influenced from paintings on Greek vases and plates. The whole collection made us feel like fashion archaeologists, digging our way through more treasures and gems. The antique artwork perfectly contrasted with the vivid colours and the fresh, feminine designs.

Groovy, Baby

Mary was also influenced by sixties art, creating psychadelic patterns with an explosion of colours. The collection is bursting with colour clashing and hypnotising patterns that’ll suck you right into Mary’s world. The collection was dominated by interesting artwork placements and clashing prints that managed to blend perfectly together, making us wonder if Mary herself is an ancient Greek Goddess. Probably.

Womanly Wiles

Mary knows that you are a strong woman who needs a strong wardrobe to match. Her pieces absolutely oozed femininity, using subtly placed prints to enhance the body and crafting the most impeccably fitted pieces you’ve ever seen. The clothes gave the models a stunning hourglass figure, or should we say, Greek vase-like figure, hugging their bodies in a way that was both seductive yet modest at the same time. We were blinded by statement floor-length chain mail dresses and fitted blazers accompanied by trousers and flared tulle skirts.
