Light Vs. Dark

The striking differences between light and darkness were Yigal Azrouël’s starting point for his Autumn/Winter 2016 collection. Darkness has always been a part of the Azrouël’s brand. He — and his insanely stylish customers— love the color black. Most of his collections are made up of a lot of pitch, jet, and coal black but, since his Resort 2016 collection Azrouël’s started to introduction some color and it has drastically expanded the brands buying options, and Fall 2016 followed in Resort, Spring and Pre-Fall’s footsteps.

A For Execution

When the looks were good, they were magnificent. The paisley jacquard coat dress with the matching slim trouser and the knit jacquard jumpsuit with leather lacing going down the sleeves were two of the better looks towards the beginning of the collection. A black rose embroidered lace took the form of trousers, off-the-shoulder mid-length dresses and a jumpsuit with bell sleeves and those pieces turned out gorgeous.

Where It All Falls Down

However, there were a lot of ideas that just didn’t work out as well as Azrouël probably planned. Some looks, the patchwork mink and leather moto jacket with the cut out peplum top and paisley pant, for example, was just a bad choice of styling. The braided knit sweaters, a houndstooth shearling moto coat, and a black dress with layered ruffles didn’t come together so well, throwing off what could have been a perfect collection of velvets, brocades and jacquards.
