Life Imitating Art

It’s been one full year since Gabriela Hearst launched her namesake luxury line and so far the brand has seen much success. Hearst, who moved to New York from Uruguay, has already secured Barney’s to stock her line, and her first collection received rave reviews from the critics who applauded her ready-to-wear shoes and accessories. It’s evident that Hearst understands not only the creative process but the business, and her woman and art inspired collection further proves that.

Attention To Detail

Ukrainian-French artist Sonia Delaunay, photographer and artist Leigh Johnson, the Gabriela Hearst team and a women’s non-profit called Manos de Uruguay were the four female artistic authorities that impacted Hearst’s design process the most. In the show notes, it’s expressed that the designer wants her customer to understand the care and attention that goes into a Gabriela Hearst collection.

The word “love” written in Morse code trimmed on the sleeves of dresses was a direct reflection of that mission. Polka dots decorated shirts and twill frocks, graphic blocked heels match outerwear in the same hues and design and fisherman hook closures secured top handle bags and blazers. The closure detail was one of the lines highlights along with a multicolored equestrian print and the soft knits and tweets made by craftswomen around the world involve with Manos de Uruguay. Will this be everybody’s cup of tea, no but one this for sure, Barneys chief operating officer Daniella Vitale, the woman who wanted to stock the collection after ten minutes of previewing one of Hearst’s previous collections will want Gabriela Hearst Fall 2016 too.
