Vintage photo inspires M. Martin’s AW16 collection.
Easy Does It
A trip to the Maritime Hotel on 16th street brought us to the M. Martin Presentation. Jennifer Noyes and Alex Gilbert, the duo that launched the brand that’s named after Gilbert’s grandparents have showed collections for a little under a year now but they’ve already been consistent with showing substantial collections, this season wasn’t different. With vintage street style photography and retro photographs in mind an easy, yet sophisticated Fall 2016 line was presented.
Cool, Calm & Collected
Four models posed in the Maritime Terrace Penthouse where Noyes and Gilbert decided to showcase their autumn offerings while the rest of the looks were posted on the wall. Oversized suits, velvet separates and high waisted denim stood out amongst the simplistic looks. Gold snap buttons that resembled eyelets closed tailored blazers in brown and navy. Pajama style pants were pair turtlenecks and layered under robe jacket and Henley tops; it was all very cool, calm and collected.
Of course there were a couple of hiccups, the grey and black wrap coat and a jogger pant with the velvet stripe could have been edited out, but editing problems are easy to fix. M. Martin is on the right path when it comes to designing. Martin and Minna, the grandparents of designer Alex Gilbert, would be proud of their granddaughter’s offerings for next season.
