Legendary New York retailer Barneys have just released their Spring ’16 campaign shot by the one and only Bruce Weber – how’s that for an all American collaboration. Entitled ‘Our Town’, the project celebrates the store’s long association with New York in a series of images and short films.  It also happens to coincide with the opening of the new Barneys flagship store in Chelsea on the same block of 7th Avenue on which the store was founded back in 1923.

Fittingly enough, the campaign focuses on a range of New York natives, from iconic creatives to local personalities. Among those featured are Lady Gaga, Cyndi Lauper, Yoko Ono, Patti Smith and even celebrated 90s designer-turned-artist Helmut Lang. Some lesser known NYC favourites who are honoured include a host of clubkids, four brothers from the powerful documentary The Wolfpack, and even the New York Fire Department’s first female batallion chief. Shot in some of NY’s most famous locations – such as Katz’s deli and Central Park – with clothes from Dries Van Noten and Isabel Marant among others, this is truly a campaign to remember. It certainly seems that way to Bruce Weber, who had some touching things to say about the project:

My affair with New York City began when I first went to the film school at NYU. Our school was on top of the Fillmore East and it felt as though anything was possible with the music I heard. Life in the city was so freewheeling then. As I now took photographs and films of my beloved city, I could still feel its embrace and a tear ran down my cheek for a love once lost and again found.”
