LCM: BOBBY ABLEY AW16

Bobby Abley had a wild blast for his Disneyland inspired AW16 collection.

Loud & Proud

Famed for his irreverence and sense of humour, Bobby Abley was in a playful mood for his AW16 collection which was part Rio Carnival and part Disneyland. If these don’t sound like the most subtle touchpoints, that’s because they weren’t – and amid all the seriousness of LC:M, why should they be?

Disneyland

Mickey Mouse ears have long been a Bobby Abley signature, so it was no surprise that Mickey’s shorts were lovingly recreated and put on a near topless model. Other Disney favourites that cropped up included Donald Duck on a white hoodie and Minnie Mouse’s eyes one of the female model’s t-shirts – eugh, where’s the gender fluidity?

Carnival

The more obvious nods to Rio’s iconic knees-up were a model trailing some inflatables behind him, pieces printed with the Christ the Redeemer statue, and even outfits consisting of the famous bright plumage worn by revelers at the carnival. Other party-boy pieces like a crop top with ‘DRUGS’ written on it in a ransom note font and another boldly stating ‘I <3 XTINA' confirmed that these were clothes to get turnt in.
