Having held their SS16 show in Manhattan this year, it makes sense that Givenchy would head to New York again for their campaign this season. Taking the form of a Love-Card (like a love-letter but more Givenchy) to the city, it’s a Mert and Marcus shot celebration of “honest friendships and mutual support” that riffs on many of the house’s essential codes: signature black and white tones, printed looks, and the Shark Lock bag all feature in the campaign.
Helping Tisci realise his mantra – “I BELIEVE IN THE POWER OF LOVE” – are a host of big name models including Joan Smalls, Lara Stone and Miranda Kerr as well as styling courtesy of Carine Roitfeld. Oh, and a poem by Anohi about love and respect scrawled on the bottom of each Card that reads, “I am a child on the river and love waits downstream / A waterfall to steal my breath and Change My Mind”. As well as the images and Cards, there’s an accompanying video which moves handy-cam style through stairwells and elevators before breaking out into the New York streets as a glut of multi-lingual models tell us what “love is” and stare moodily into the camera: it’s lofty in scale, enigmatic and fairly weird. Well, would you expect any less from the one and only Riccardo Tisci?
