Take a walk down memory lane (even if you weren’t reading magazines in the 90s) with the best Gucci campaigns ever.
Earlier this week we treated you to the best Gucci moments of all time (so refresh yourself if you’ve forgotten just how good some of them are), and now we want to get all retrospective again with one of our favourite brands. Is there anything better than vintage fashion campaigns? Well, probably, yes. But still, the retro typefaces, old-school supermodels in their prime, and throwback trends are both entertaining and educational in equal measure. So, without further ado, here’s our selection of the sexiest, most stylish, and most outrageous Gucci campaigns in history.
AW 1997
Carolyn Murphy and Angela Lindvall get close, personal, and pretty matchy-matchy in black strappy gowns for this Mario Testino shot for the one and only Tom Ford.
SS 1998

AW 1998
The one and only Bridget Hall is like a statue swathed in fabric in this b&w shot by Steven Klein.
SS 2001
We’re into the 00s and so it’s about time for the arrival of Queen Kate in this classic campaign from the lens of Inez and Vindooh.
SS 2003
Oh, this again? Yep. It would have been frankly criminal not to include what is probably the most famous – and controversial – Gucci ad of all time: it’s Carman Kass by Mario Testino.
SS 2011
Fast forward a few years and it’s Insta-darling Joan Smalls showing off her heels with Karmen Pedaru in this vivid shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott
AW 2015
Finishing in the here and now, it’s these shots of Antonia Wilson wearing some Alessandro-era classics (furry horsebits anyone?) by current favourite Glen Luchford.
