PREMIERE: PINS – “GOT IT BAD”

We bring you the latest track from rock quintet PINS.

PINS are the five-piece girl gang from Manchester that you’ve probably heard about on the web: their debut album, 2013’s Girls Like Us, was apart Rock’n’Roll and part post-punk with a title track heavy on distortion and squawking guitars (there was also a smoke-filled video with a strong slicked hair, leather jacketed, rebel-Americana aesthetic to match). Then came their follow up, Wild Nights, that was released earlier this year and sharpened up their Jesus & Mary Chain-inflected, decidedly noisy sound, whilst still keeping things pretty drugged up and industrial. They’re still Manchester girls, remember? So don’t be surprised when you see they’ve got a song called “Molly” on their latest record that is about exactly what you think it is.

Comparisons with fellow all-female crews like Dum Dum Girls are tempting to make but almost a little too easy. After all, to make too big a deal of their gender credentials is perhaps to highlight the worrying lack of female rock bands. Either way, comparisons to American bands like Dum Dum can be reductive, especially given that PINS definitely have their own identity: and a very British sounding one at that.

Now one of the standout tracks from Wild Nights has got the video treatment, and we’re lucky enough to be able to bring it to you first. “Got It Bad” is a melancholy love song with an addictive chorus that will have you wanting to aggressively cut your hair and throw on an all black outfit with cigarette in hand. The video was shot on a chilly Manchester evening by director Sarah Jenny Johnson, who said the piece is “dipping in and out of focus constantly, blurry lights, handheld camera – almost ‘drunk’ in a way. Drunk in love.”

So check out the video and, after loving the song (which you definitely will), click here to download it for free! Now that’s an offer that’s always hard to refuse, especially from a band this good.
