PREMIERE: LUCY FOLK RESORT ’16 FILM

We’ve got the premiere of the best Resort video you’re likely to see for a while.

If you’ve sat through as many campaign videos as we have, then you probably know that they can be a tiresome business. Often resembling an extended perfume advert, they don’t always succeed in elevating fashion film to the sophisticated (or at the very least entertaining) art form it can be when practiced by pioneers like Nick Knight. Fortunately, Melbourne-based jewellery designer Lucy Folk has been working hard to change all that.

Last year we premiered the candy-coated video she put together for her Resort ‘15 collection, and things have only got better since then, because for this Resort ‘16 collection, Lucy’s taken things to Venice for a hilariously eccentric short film. Shot during the Biennale Art Festival, Tesoro features talented siblings Quentin and Jemima Jones on the search for a husband in Venice. If this all sounds distinctly regressive, don’t worry, it’s certainly not to be taken seriously. Instead, it’s a chance for a kind of Wes Anderson inspired adventure, complete with a cod-Italian voiceover and silent film-style subtitles on screen.

Lucy said that “the inspiration stemmed from iconic images of boat parties in Venice as captured by Helmut Newton and epitomised by Brigitte Bardot and it grew from there.” So as well as being tongue-in-cheek and wonderfully irreverent, it also happens to look rather good as well: what better backdrop could there be to jewelry and sunglasses than pristine white outfits on Venice’s glistening waterways? Now all you need to do is check it out and get ready to be disappointed when the next fashion video you see is considerably less funny and joyous than this one.
