Alice Olivia is the huge vocal talent going from YouTube hero to bona fide artist – and we’ve got the exclusive premiere of her new video.
It all began for Alice Olivia when she covered Ed Sheeran’s “I See Fire” on YouTube. And unlike the acoustic cover you did of “Chasing Pavements” when you were 14, Alice’s video got a shedload of watches (over 8million at this point…). Enough, in fact, to attract international attention and whip up an instant fan-base that any aspiring artist would dream of. Oh, and the praise of Mark Ronson.
Fast forward a few years and Alice’s voice is clearly still her strongest asset (her cover of Kanye’s “Only One” reimagines the touching song sans auto-tune) as she begins her transition from home-video hero to fully fledged songstress with a single and video that we are thrilled to be premiering. The icy beat of “Lovers” proves the perfect backdrop to Alice’s soaring vocals as she explores a failing love from the view of an outsider: ‘“Lovers’” is about watching someone you love remain in a destructive, poisonous relationship and helplessly watching from a distance.’ The video itself is a poignant visualisation of the song’s themes, capturing various glazed, freeze-framed moments from a day in the life of an unhappy couple. A bit of a moving one for a Thursday afternoon to be honest, but as any pre-If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late Drake fan knows, that ain’t always a bad thing.
