Kit Neale SS16 Womenswear

Discover Kit Neale’s, “super, happy, fabulous” first womenswear line.

After dipping turquoise fluffy toes (with great success) into womenswear for a Pre-Fall Rainbow Brite collab, Kit Neale is stepping out alone into the realm once more with the label’s first womenswear collection for SS16.

It all started with a candle, four in fact. Furthering Neale’s obsession with the found and the forgotten, four figurative ‘British beach’ candles inspired the SS16 collection. After trawling through junk at flea markets and car boot sales for treasures, the team stumbled across the candles that would feature on their SS15 invite but held them back from the garment designs. “I’ve been gagging to dust them off and put them to good use,” Neale says, and what better way than on the debut womenswear collection?

The signature print is the colour of sugar mice and custard, imagined through the clothing of the characters in question. Emblazoned with messages like, “my life is fabulous” and “the last one in the sea is a rotten egg”, next to children’s book style sketches, Neale’s womenswear is looking just as playful and lustworthy as the men’s line. We grabbed a minute with the man himself to introduce us to his work.

What’s inspired you for SS16?

Flea Markets, Car Boots & these figurative candles we found of typical british looking tourists.

Are there any artists who’ve inspired you for the collection?

The Memphis Group and Magda Archers paintings.

What’s been on the studio soundtrack?

Bruce Springsteen, Cliff Richard, Donna Summer and your Dad’s party anthems.

How does SS16 follow on or contrast from AW15?

This is our first womenswear collection. We previously collaborated with Rainbow Brite and produced a capsule collection but this is our first season doing a strictly Kit Neale womenswear line.

Can you describe the collection for us in three words?

Super. Happy. Fabulous.
