PREMIERE: SOCIETY – “PROTOCOL (CHESTER WATSON REMIX)”

Chester Watson serves up a deliciously awkward remix of Society’s “Protocol”.

18-year-old Floridian Chester Watson is making all kinds of waves. The once ballet dancer released his first mixtape at 15 and ever since his smooth-edged low vocals have become his signature. Watson moulds Society’s decadent echoing pop number into something ultimately darker. “Protocol” is so busy it’s all-encompassing, it’s not background music, it’s forefront of your brain tapping at your skull music without the bone shaking bass.

Chester Watson’s remake is a discordant, glitchy and dark follow-up. The echoes are still there, entrancing and unsettling throwing things off balance but Watson’s voice centres it all, bringing strange sounds all back together into something cohesive. Absorbing and addictive, listen in a dark room in the early hours.
