NEW NOISE: TRUDY

Trudy are sending all their love just in time for the British Summertime.

Trudy

Trudy is made up of the jokers at school, the class clowns with goofy smiles and messy hair. Plus, they’ve got the old school sound down to a T and sing about subjects any teenager would remember well, like romantic encounters and drinking at parties, or perhaps teen stories we would rather erase from our memories. It makes for good listening anyway.

Their debut single, “All My Love” reminds us of our youth and the video is a barrel of laughs too. The boys run riot, causing havoc with bags on their heads and guitars in their hands. Please don’t try this at home, kids. It could fuel your summer, in a ramshackle hedonistic way, but it’s sweeter than that. It’s less sex, drugs, rock n roll, more snogging, cider and pop. We ran some questions by lead singer Olly and received some tongue in cheek answers. We wouldn’t expect anything less.

How did you all meet and how did you know you wanted to work with each other?

Me (Olly) and Brad met at our hometown’s community arts centre, I was auditioning for his band, we were 16 and Brad had a pootash. I met Lewis on a cliff edge, he was about to jump.

What do you write about?

Girls, sometimes friends. We try our best to be honest.

What appeals to you most about pop music?

Fast cars and Ed Sheeran.

Your bio cites you as the voice of the kids, what does that sound like and what are you trying to say?

That is a little cocky of us. We wanna be catchy and we want the kids to have a good time.

And of course we’re going to ask about the name?

Girl’s name.

Olly, you’ve been outlined as a quite literally hopeless romantic, what’s your favourite love song?

“Now Is Better Than Before” by Jonathan Richman, it’s beautiful. When me and my sister were kids, my dad used to play upbeat Jonathan records and we’d run around the room like a pair of monkeys. There’s something nostalgic and completely fresh about every time I listen to him.

What do you imagine the people who listen to your music to be like?

Friendly, sexy, silly people.

We love the video for “All My Love”, what’s life like in Leeds? Do you run the streets?

Cheers, but no, not really. We’re Liverpool based soon. As of yet we’ve never really had a home for the band, quite sad really.

“All My Love” is about a girl but who’s your ultimate crush?

Girls from the 60s that are too old for us now.
