PHINEY PET ILLUSTRATES HER TOP 5 POP SONGS

Rainbow-coloured mega babe Phiney Pettman aka Phiney Pet tells us all about her celeb coveted brand and illustrates five of the finest pop songs for us.

PHINEY PET - BOOTILICIOUS - ILLUSTRATION

Destiny’s Child – “Bootylicious”

Phiney Pettman has some magical ability. She can make everything cute or super sassy through the power of illustration. Take one of her leather jackets for instance, (worn recently by Miley Cyrus, no less) splashed with koi fish for AW15 or SS15’s denim dresses, blinged up with sequinned cactuses accompanied by warnings of “DO NOT TOUCH”. The pastel pictures with a punch have been a cult buy as of late, as Phiney masters the sweet look without being saccharine, accompanying her drawings with black leather, ‘babe with the power tees’ and a recommended serving of thick, black eyeliner.

We asked Phiney to tell us all about her South East London brand and to recreate five of the best pop songs in an image, with twist of course, after we fell in love with her Insta doodles as much as her designs.

PHINEY PET - HAVE MY MONEY - ILLUSTRATION

Rihanna – “Bitch Better Have My Money”

Who’s your ultimate Phiney Pet babe? Who would you love to design for?

The ultimate Phiney Pet babe is any girl who really owns she is, embraces everything about herself, flaws ‘n’ all and kicks serious butt! I would love to design for babes like Solange or Tavi Gevinson, they empower women and inspire me!

Which is your favourite illustration? How did you decide which songs to recreate?

My favourite is the Destiny’s Child illustration, I really enjoy the jelly hat Kelly is wearing. I wanted to recreate songs that everyone has heard and most likely danced too at least once in their life!

Of the artists you’ve chosen to reimagine, whose style is your favourite?

Kelis has always had amazing style! She’s the queen of crop top and incredible hair do’s.

Why did you decide to start Phiney Pet?

I like to create clothes that are fun to wear. I also wanted somewhere to put my silly illustrations and I thought combining the two might work out alright!

Where do you get inspiration from? Your insta is pretty on point!

My inspiration comes, most often, from people. I am huge people watcher, I love finding out what makes people decide what to wear or even what makes them laugh and cry. That combined with nostalgia really inspires me –  through my work I always try to take people to a place where they can be like “I remember that!”. I’m fascinated by the connection between fashion choices and emotions.

Where is the ideal place to wear a full head to toe Phiney Pet look?

Anywhere you fancy feeling colourful!

What can we expect for next season?

Next season is looking like it might be my favourite collection I have developed so far! So I am hoping everyone else feels the same. I am working with some amazing people so I think there will be elements of design which I haven’t shown before and no doubt lots of colour.

What’s been your favourite piece to create so far?

I always enjoy the jackets I make from the leather to embellished pieces. My favourite was probably the custom jacket I did for my friend Jeanie Annan-Lewin, she let me do whatever I wanted without any limits. Those projects are always the most fun!
