Miu Miu AW15: "Subjective Reality"

Miu Miu have dropped their AW15 campaign titled “Subjective Reality”. Shot by Steven Meisel, it’s an unexpected, candid snapshot of the city.

Miu Miu have just dropped their AW15 campaign and boy is it a good one. Shot by none other than Steven Meisel on the sidewalks of New York, the campaign aptly titled “Subjective Reality” stars four fast-rising actresses – Mia Goth, Maddison Brown, Hailey Gates and – former Wonderland cover girl – Stacy Martin.

There are many contrasting variations in photography – the compositional and the improvisational, the studio and the street, the hand-held and the tripod. When it comes to “Subjective Reality”, Meisel has rejected the academic notions of composition, instead framing his subjects with the streets of New York, their existing framework, their energy and their charm.

With individual poignant subtitles, each image tells a story. A passerby is captured mid gesture (fixing their glasses in place), a man is seen purchasing his breakfast and an office-worker is seen strolling to work. The subjects, dressed in Miu Miu AW15, are framed by car windows or caught waiting at a bus stop, or crossing the street.

The rebellious and improvisational spirit of the images, matches the attitude of the collection. Clashing colours, tonnes of texture and a mash-up of materials play out as a series of pinafore tops, glossy pinafores, cotton shirting, oversized outerwear and bold accessories – complete with a slick of rouge lipstick and a black eyeliner flick. Could this be one of our favourite Miu Miu campaigns to date?
