Northern Surf

Topman Design kicked off LCM SS16 with a bang with their new collection aptly titled “Northern Surf”. A mash-up of cali-surf references and retro sportswear codes, with punk sensibility and an entirely Northern attitude – the floppy-haired Topman Design SS16 boys wore ice-cream hued hooded anoraks, stripe-side running shorts, double denim, karate-belt trousers, printed polo-neck tops, short sleeved shirts that nodded to the 70s, hot pink leather and vests printed with the words: “Danz Like You’re Northern”, chain and padlock hung around the neck.

The new suit

Caramel and nude pyjama-like stripes appeared on bomber jackets, short sleeved shirts and super-wide chinos – a new casual suit was born. Take note, these were not flares, they hung wide from the waist to the floor and can be teamed with trainers and smart shoes alike. Meanwhile Pepto-Bismal pink bottoms came served half-trouser (with button-up waistband) half-tracksuit (with black stripes running down the side).

Patch perfection

Double-denim looks came embellished with metal and peppered with patches. Varying between logos and those brandishing the words “Junk” and “Slam”, these patches also appeared as a “patch print” that ran through the entire collection, appearing on trousers, ponchos, shirts and form fitting polo-necks. When SS16 comes rolling in, we’ll be danzing like we’re Northern.
