Babe is the girl gang we want to join. Curated by Petra Collins, 30 artists have come together to make the pastel pink collection of feminist work.
Petra Collins has been an it-girl for a while. Not in the Paris Hilton kind of way, more like Petra is the kind of girl we should be aspiring to be. A 21-year-old photographer in high demand, much of her work focuses on female identity and feminism. Not the often intimidating kind of feminism that involves theorists and essays, feminism we can all see, relate to and understand (that goes for girls and boys btw). She’s the leader of the Babe pack too, having brought together 30 artists with similar ideals from her online collective, The Arduous, for this scrapbook of dreams for every socially aware girl.
With a foreword by Rookie girl Tavi Gevinson and contributions from Jenny Zhang, Jamia A. Wilson and Karley Slutever, we can’t wait to read, re-read and obsess over this volume, especially after knowing what to expect from Karley and Petra, having teamed them up for a chat last year. Our fave page is definitely the various stages of Justin Timberlake by Shana Sadeghi-Ray but a lot of it is just fabulous as and often in places thought-provoking, beautiful and still playful.
