The news has just dropped, Naomi Campbell, the revered and feared supermodel has landed her own reality show. We celebrate the icon’s career.
So someone finally realised what a great idea it is to give Naomi Campbell a reality show. We’ll be loving every second of the insight into the supermodel’s life. There’s no official news yet from Ms Campbell except for an Insta post with the caption, “Hanging out with @mrjoezee at @yahoo newfronts. Gearing up for my Yahoo Style series – I Am Naomi.”
Editor in chief of Yahoo Style, Joe Zee has said it will be a mix between a reality show and a talk show and we’ll be able to watch it under Yahoo’s Screen streaming service. Joe Zee said of Naomi, “I think there’s something so unpredictable and … spontaneous about her, but my favourite part about Naomi is that a lot of people don’t know how hysterical she is, full of bites. You’ve seen her on TV before and she’s always so funny and really engaging. So many different people from different walks of life love her. She was with Hillary Clinton the other night and she knows Oprah and Justin Bieber is obsessed with her. I thought, ‘Who else can get the cross section of people that Naomi can?'”
We can’t wait. To celebrate Naomi’s long and varied career, we take a look back at some of her top covers as one of the most famous models in the world.
Vogue Italia June 1988
Over 20 years ago a baby Naomi looks fresh-faced as a natural beauty on the cover of Vogue Italia at just 18 years old! What were you doing at 18? Your A-levels and hating your parents and not being on the cover of magazines? Yeah, same.
“The 1990s – what next?” Asks the cover of Vogue 1990 with Naomi on the cover with her fellow supermodel pals. We can tell you now what’s next: jelly shoes, F.R.I.E.N.D.S. and a lot of crop tops.
Vogue April 1992
All in white, the ten most iconic women of the era team up for Vogue’s 100th Anniversary Special. Other cover girls included Christy Turlington, Claudia Schiffer and Cindy Crawford, all shot by Patrick Demarchelier.
i-D “The Artistic Issue” February 2003
Wearing the soup tins made famous by Andy Warhol as a headpiece, Naomi Campbell adorns the cover of i-D with nothing but the tag of “Superstar!” She doesn’t need anything else.
V Summer 2009
Shot by Mario Testino, Naomi looks Playboy-esque for the swimsuit issue of V. With legs for days and a million dollar smile, she signs off the issue with her signature on the cover.
LOVE February 2010
When this issue was released, LOVE’s editor, Katie Brand said: “For this issue of LOVE, we took eight women who are generally acknowledged as the most beautiful in the world, got them to show off their bodies – widely regarded as the most perfect in the world – and photographed them all in exactly the same position for the cover. We did this to show how much they differed physically from one another, which is why we also printed their measurements. The point is that ‘perfection’ is not fixed, timeless or transcendent. It varies, as the measurements of our cover girls show.” The other models who appeared were Natalia Vodianova, Amber Valletta, Jeneil Williams, Kristen McMenamy and Daria Werbowy.
