NYFW: Diane von Furstenberg AW15

“By day she commands her world, by night she inspires fantasy.” We weren’t sure if Diane von Furstenberg was describing us or her models at her AW15 show…

Love Games

There is a scene in Milan Kundera’s “The Unbearable Lightness of Being” in which the protagonist’s mistress dons a gentleman’s bowler hat. The outcome of her androgynous flirtation is the intense arousal of both parties: love is made and the hat falls by the wayside.

One imagines a similar scene facilitated by the pieces in Diane von Furstenberg’s FW15 collection (aptly titled the “Seduction” collection), a celebration of sex, power, and the woman who wants both.

A Woman’s World

A series of menswear-inspired pieces stole the show: pinstripe vests and blazers, paired with satin and chiffon – the perfect balance of masculine and feminine power. Dresses throughout fell above the knee, while colors ranged from midnight blue to deep red.

The Casual Seductress

Kendall Jenner opened a show dominated (pun intended) by favorites like Anna Ewers, Fei Fei Sun, and Jourdan Dunn, while The Weeknd’s “Earned It” cued the Mr. Grey references.

For her own spin around the runway, von Furstenberg moseyed out through a giant keyhole to “Always a Woman”, Billy Joel’s ode to man-eating women everywhere: “She can kill with a smile, she can wound with her eyes/She can ruin your faith with her casual lies … She can lead you to love/she can take you or leave you … Yea, she steals like a thief, but she’s always a woman to me.” Yup, sounds like this season’s DVF girl.
