MFW: Vivienne Westwood AW15

Vivienne Westwood AW15 serves a mash up of re-worked sports codes, trademark British prints and bold suiting.

Vivienne Westwood’s latest men’s collection is an androgynous offering of bold suits, knitwear and sportswear splashed with the label’s trademark British prints. The collection harks back to Westwood’s own AW88 collection “Time Machine”, as well as taking inspiration from the quintessentially English paintwork of John Constable, and Edwardian interiors. Westwood cites the message for the collection as the plight of endangered gorillas in the Virunga National Park in the Congo, under threat due to the drilling of oil.

The effeminately made-up models sported variations of bold checks adorning suit jackets, British bank note prints plastered across a matching sweatshirt and tracksuit bottom duo, and t-shirts featuring the Prince of Wales’ face – with Westwood heralding him “patron of the collection” for the “great job he is doing” as an eco-warrior.

Albeit lavish and quirky in classic Westwood fashion, and despite showing in Milan, the sharp tailoring and smooth silhouettes of some pieces would not put them out of place worn out and about on a day-to-day basis in London’s east end.
