One of the UK’s proudest fashion exports, one of the original supermodels and undeniable style icon of our time, the one and only Kate Moss turns 41 today. Most models would shy away from being another year older, but when you’re as timeless as Miss Moss there’s nothing to fear. Since the early 90’s Kate has been a fixture of catwalks and campaigns, proving that while a good model has a pretty face, a great model has the charisma to match. The pride of British fashion, she has become an international superstar, with a head for business and a talent for modelling that puts girls half her age to shame. In honour of fashion royalty’s big day, we chart 7 of our favourite Moss moments. Here’s to another fabulous year!

CORRINE DAY

Happy Birthday Kate Moss

Back in the early 90’s, the late Corrine Day photographed Kate for The Face and pioneered the ‘heroin chic’ look that came to define the decade. In a departure from the buxom babes of the time like Cindy Crawford and Linda Evangelista, the new look both shocked and inspired.

THOSE CALVIN KLEIN ADS

Similarly early on in her career, we saw Kate star in the Calvin Klein Obsession campaign. Cast alongside Marky Mark, young Moss was, in some shots, totally naked. Controversy aside, it was a career defining moment and her little Lottie has been following in her CK footsteps.

KATE MOSS FOR TOPSHOP

Happy Birthday Kate Moss

In 2007, Kate designed a collection with Katy England for Topshop, which was an unprecedented success. Crowds gathered outside the brand’s Oxford Street flagship, where the woman herself unveiled the collection in the window. This successful formula was repeated with a luxurious vibe for Christmas 2014, with even more gusto than before.

STYLE ICON

Throughout the 2000’s, Kate was the style icon, and was a fresh departure from the sexualised and tacky fashion that was mainstream throughout the decade. She made the grey skinny jean a staple in the wardrobes of a whole generation, inspired a thousand knock-offs of those Vivienne Westwood pirate boots and who can forget that Burberry bikini?

VOGUE

Happy Birthday Kate Moss

Kate has been on the cover of Vogue more than thirty times, and now has a contributing fashion editor credit with the magazine.

ROCKSTAR BOYFRIEND

In 2011, Kate married her boyfriend of four years, The Kills guitarist Jamie Hince in a ceremony near their home in Gloucestershire. She wore Galliano, and had sixteen bridesmaids in what was most likely the most stylist wedding of all time.

OLYMPIC CHAMPION

Happy Birthday Kate Moss

Who can forget Kate starring alongside Naomi Campbell in the closing ceremony of the 2012 Olympics? A truly iconic moment that celebrated all that is great about British fashion.
