JAMES STOPFORTH: PLASTICA

Photographer James Stopforth’s series, Plastica, is based around the idea of building an entire London borough from its own recycled waste.

Your trash is James Stopforth’s treasure. Created in collaboration with architectural designer Rain Wu, their primarily plastic metropolis is brought to life by James’ imagining of the characters who might live in the synthetic world. Displayed at Red Bull Studios London as the first of their Collectives exhibitions, five collaborations between artists of very different disciplines, it’s supposed to make you think. If we carry on as we are ladies and gentlemen, we’re all going to be kitted out in apocalyptic apparel in a man-made mess, not looking quite as fabulous as in these photos. However, the series also appreciates the material and it’s versatility. Look at what can be created from recyclables. It’s totally trashy, in the best way.
