East London vocalist Harper drops the moody video for the title track from her debut “Velvet” EP
Bursting out of the saturated mass of the East London music scene singer Harper has been slowly re-working our expectations of a pop singer for a little while now, unveiling her debut EP via an exclusive stream on ASOS, last month. Now we’ve got the pleasure of premiering the video for the lead track off the EP “Velvet”.
Resting on a melancholic piano part allows Harper to let her vocal come to the fore, and what a vocal it is: clear, almost choral in tone, imbued with a level of emotion that sits just under the surface, demonstrating the kind of control most singers would kill for. With a video directed by Ben Newbury (who’s previously worked with Ellie Goulding and UNKLE) that explores a slowly crumbling relationship under the cover of darkness, it’s a perfect accompaniment to the moving, haunting track.
