PFW: Maison Martin Margiela SS15

“Go through your wardrobe, make do and mend” – for SS15 Maison Martin Margiela re-imagined traditional workwear, making it magnificent as opposed to mundane

Workwear revival

For Maison Martin Margiela SS15 traditional workwear was re-imagined and re-invented with a desirable edge referencing the quote – “Go through your wardrobe, make do and mend” – taken from a 1940’s British government advice book for women. With this in mind boring office type pinstripes went out the window when the navy and white staples were slashed, tied, belted, strung and flared, then teamed with sheer nude and daisy prints. Pre-owned wardrobe staples transitioned from mundane, to infectiously attractive – we want it all and we want it now.

Contrasts

Whilst the pinstripes were heavy-duty masculine, the sheer flesh tones and delicate daisies were utterly feminine contrasting with the hard-hitting navy hue throughout. Silk micro-daisies clashed with bold burnt red daisies, whilst long sleeveless robes were half nude half print. Thermo-moulded leather sandals came in crimson and black, diagonally strapped and tied at the ankle, ‘coat stand bags’ bags came hung from oversized metal hoops and visor sunglasses were adorned with daisies.
