Our favourite pint-sized pop star is back with a dazzling designer tour wardrobe and of course, some killer heels
Everyone’s favourite pint-size pop star Kylie Minogue, is back in a big way. Kicking off her Kiss Me Once tour triumphantly last night in Liverpool, this tour beholds four new tracks by the songstress along with a dreamy and surreal film for “Sleepwalker” featuring Minogue herself playing characters including incarnations of Miss Havisham and Sleeping Beauty, roaming free in an otherworldly abstract dreamscape.
Aside from her new roundelay of tracks, the tour also boasts Kylie’s custom made designer show costumes and as ever, some killer heels. With designs by John Paul Gaultier, Dolce & Gabbana, Julien Macdonald and William Wilde all in the mix, needless to say the show nothing short of spectacular, complete with a perfect pink sugar-coated dolls house – what more could we have asked for?
“For me, it’s the ultimate because you are really living in the moment. All aspects of what I do have to come together in a live environment, which is at once thrilling and nerve-wracking! Having so much shared energy in one place is amazing. All cast and crew come with as much energy as the audience so it’s a case of chicken or the egg….we don’t know who was first but we are all there for the same thing – united in that space and time,” says Kylie. “Also, I am aware that almost everyone in the audience has played a part in my life, and I in theirs, although we have never met.” From glowing red lips and life-size female lobsters, to the show’s six acts: Surrealist Girlie Revue, Bauhaus Disco, Dolls House, Fashsex, Kiss Me Once, Showgirl2014 and Into The Blue – there is no doubt that Kiss Me Once is quintessentially Kylie.
But it was the costumes that caught our eye – the Marchesa couture gown, the mirrored Julien Macdonald dress and of course all things Dolce & Gabbana. The design duo have worked closely with their lifelong friend to transform the performance of the “Piccola Principessa” (Little Princess) in a real show in which fashion and dance are the real stars. Her opening look was testament to this – a red silk tulle mini dress, with a handmade lace-up corset belt and a cascade of jewels with mini lipsticks in passion color, recalling elements loved by Salvador Dali and Elsa Schiaparelli, forever sources of inspiration for Dolce&Gabbana. Also debut last night were Dolce & Gabbana’s two bodysuits, trench coat with driver cap and a crystal studded skirt that sparkled in the light, making sure that as ever, all eyes were on Queen Kylie.
