SEVEN WONDERS: BARBIE

In honour of Jeremy Scott’s Barbie themed SS15 show in Milan we’ve come up with a list of our favourite doll’s best collaborations

1.) Barbie X Moschino

For SS15 the ingenious Jeremy Scott decided to apply his high-low aesthetic to the doll that we all grew up loving. In his own words: “”Like every girl and gay boy, I loved Barbie. It’s hard not to; she’s practically perfect. She’s a good big sister, she’s had every job in the world, worn every outfit. And it’s just joyful. Her and I share the same things: We just want to bring joy to people.” We think he did a pretty ace job of it.

2.) Barbie X Mac

In 2007 Barbie teamed up with make-up power players MAC, to produce a collection that you can just imagine her wearing. It might be a little pink for most adult women, but it totally appeals to our inner six-year-old.

3.) Barbie X Karl Lagerfeld

Who better to immortalise the Black & White One than Barbie? She’s set to adopt his signature look this winter, in a limited run of dolls, to be sold on Net-A-Porter

4.) Barbie X Christian Louboutin

What kind of successful woman doesn’t own a pair of Louboutins? Like any Grown Woman worth her salt (and like the fashion forward goddess she is) Barbie sported none other than Christian’s knee-high fuscia fringed boots, red soles and all!

5.) Barbie X Gaga

Never one to miss a good trend, in 2010 Barbie experimented with new materials. In this particular case, wrapping herself in raw meat, Gaga-style.

6.) Barbie X Coach

In 2013 Barbie teamed up with Coach, creating a collection of stunning bags, available in both normal (human) and Barbie size. A dream come true for those girls who always wished they could dress like the woman herself.

7.) Donatella Versace X Barbie

Given how similar these two look (long, blonde hair, impossible figures for women their age) it would have been a travesty not to create an ode to the mighty matriarch of Versace in plastic. Donning an iconic dress from 2013, Donatella Barbie is undoubtedly one of our favourites.
