LFW Exclusive: Sadie Clay SS15

We caught up with the emerging designer backstage before her industrial-inspired SS15 show

The atmosphere was electric for Sadie Clayton’s SS15 presentation at St. Giles-in-the-Fields. Inspired by the architecture of the Pompidou Centre, ‘Pomp & Do’ mixed theatrical sculptures with Sadie’s love for copper. We managed to catch an exclusive interview with our One To Watch and resident #coppergirl before the show.

How are you feeling?

I’m feeling good, I’m feeling fresh… Maybe a little on edge! But I’m raring to go and I’m ready for it.

Can you take us through the collection in your own words?

So my woman is powerful yet feminine and elegant. My numerology is the number six, so I always tend to design with multiples of three in my head. So I’ve got twelve models this time, three straps and three layers of fabric on a lot of garments: sort of three-layering. It’s all about layers. My main inspiration is the Pompidou Centre and the intricate foundations of it.

So it’s quite a multi-layered collection?

Absolutely. Strong, like the Pompidou Centre.

What kind of vibe are you hoping for during the show?

That’s hard because I feel like I’ve done the shock factor thing before with my sculptures, whereas now I’m refining myself and coming more into my own as a designer. So I still want that wow factor, but I now want a wearable element too. I just want people to receive it well and think ‘wow, I can see that on myself’.

What are you going to do after the show to celebrate?

Flying to Venice for my Mum’s wedding!

Catch her while you can! Her energy’s contagious and we predict big things for this Yorkshire-born wunderkind.
