Jeremy Scott demonstrated more of his trademark in-your-face graphics, whilst a collar with Miley Cyrus finished his ‘Psychedelic Jungle’
The buzz
Jeremy Scott fueled weeks of speculation when he announced his SS15 collection would feature a special surprise involving Miley Cyrus. Everybody wondered, with a campaign with Marc Jacobs under her sparkly belt, could this be the runway debut of America’s favorite tongue-wagging pop star? Then word hit two days ago that Miley would be debuting her latest art project titled “Dirty Hippie”; confirmation of this theory came in the form of an Instagram photo depicting an obsessively bedazzled light-up bong (complete with dinosaurs, and alphabet letters spelling ‘DRUGZ’).
After-school special
The surprise, however, was better than we imagined. Miley Cyrus was Scott’s honest-to-God collaborator, completing his ‘Psychedelic Jungle’ world with the custom jewelry of a hundred after-school arts-and-crafts sessions. No alphabet bead (or Elmer’s glue bottle) was spared. There were headbands and necklaces, sunglasses with pasted gemstones, and a party hat with a plastic baby – the kinds of ‘art’ we made in simpler times, when our moms displayed poorly rendered stick-figures on the refrigerator.
Memory lane
Together with Miley’s bits and baubles, Scott’s trademark in-your-face graphics took us on an acid trip though our memories of elementary school: compulsory D.A.R.E. days were evoked by sweater reading ‘Don’t Do Drugs’ , while racing-flame hot shorts stirred up memories of Matchbox car fever.
Remember your favorite Lisa Frank folder? Well, Scott stole it for his colour palette, along with cheesy leopard-print, Britto-style color blocks, and plenty of trippy color swirls – which he sent down the runway to the sounds of jungle playtime (you know, elephants trumpeting, and lions roaring up a fuss). It was the prequel to Jeremy Scott’s America, before Bart Simpson and McDonald’s; it was the chapter when we were all just kids, and growing up seemed far away.
