From Einsteins Garden to the 99 varieties of ale available, we select the very best offerings ahead of this years Green Man festival

Renowned for it’s laid back attitude and of course, the stellar line up, Green Man Festival is a go-to for a weekend of escapism in the Welsh Black Mountains. Refreshingly independent (the event is organised by Fiona and her family), Green Man champions good music, good times and good causes. With over 1,500 performers, comedy, poetry, installation art and performance all located in the Welsh Wilderness, Green Man has it all. Here we chart our top seven festival recommendations ahead of the main event.

THE GREENMAN

Climb inside the belly of the giant Green Man with your most wanted request in mind, write a wish on the walls inside and make sure you’re out by the time it’s set alight on the last night of the festival, when your wish will hopefully come true.

EINSTEIN’S GARDEN

Have your brains boggled with live performances, comedy, walking music and theatre and participate in the various talks and interactive instillations on offer at Einstein’s Garden’s sustainably powered stages.

With the best rap, hip-hop, dub, reggae, blues and world music you could ask for, head here for guaranteed feel good vibes. Let the good times role.

FARR OUT FIELDS AND FAR OUT AFTER DARK

Hosting some of the most energetic attractions, the Far Out Fields offer live music, a ferris wheel and a cinema tent. When dusk falls the music carries on until the wee hours, along with a blazing bonfire for those who prefer an impromptu jam. You can find us fireside, guitar in hand.

THE LINE-UP

With the likes of Beiruit, Daughter, The War On Drugs, Sharon Van Etten, Caribu, Polica, Simeon Mobile Disco, Francois and The Atlas Mountains amongst a whole host of others on the bill, the line-up can’t be faulted. Be sure to catch East India Youth and Hockeysmith, you won’t be disappointed.

THE SCENERY

Watching bands whilst surrounded by the beautiful Brecon Beacons, what more could you ask for? From the Fortune Falls area equipped with pond, stream and waterfall, to the Walled Garden and The Courtyard, if you’re after an afternoon away from the music you’ll be spoilt for choice with scenic location a plenty.

GO APE FOR ALE

That’s right, Green Man has its very own beer festival with over 99 locally sourced Ale’s, that’s 24.75 beers a day meaning you’ll never have to settle for the same beer twice!
