From a man renowned for the slickest of slick dressing, in a solely monochrome hues, we expect a lot. And a lot is what Karl Lagerfeld delivers. For SS15, Lagerfeld looks to the relaxed elegance of Hollywood’s golden age. A summer in which sportswear influences find themselves melding with noble fabrics in a predominantly black, navy blue and white palette on tuxedos, polos and shirts. A realm of contrasts.

The game of contrasts continues with a new shirt imagined by Karl Lagerfeld with a very high white collar on a black body, whilst the fabrics themselves bring a number of surprises: denim meets the tuxedo and suit jackets are re-imagines in jersey or knit – the conventional boundaries are broken and boy do we like it. Double pockets provide a trompe-l’œil effect, while a tuxedo jacket becomes a light trenchcoat for evening in a zipped waterproof fabric – so whilst style is the essence, practicality reigns supreme.

Whilst classic materials like leather ensure luxury, neoprene adds a contemporary edge alongside summer cashmere and linen. Small checks and geometric prints on shirts and ties evoke the motifs of automobile fabrics whilst pearl grey and blue grey bring their softness to the navy and black duo. As a continuation of the collection, accessories offer a wide range of bags in matte leather for every occasion from a weekend break to a business meeting. Moccasins, lace-ups and upgraded trainers display the navy and black mix in plain or woven leather. A sense of detail which reflects the luxurious, retro feel of the collection.

Whilst the majority of the collection remains unseen, we take a sneak peak at three of the looks forecast for SS15.
