Christian Dior Creative Director Raf Simons mixed his love of American style with the European sensibility found in the House’s history.
“America is a constant inspiration for me,” said Simons ahead of his Cruise collection for the French fashion house, which took place in Brooklyn’s Navy Courtyard yesterday.“The pop culture, the energy, the fluidity… there is just something so alive here. What I always like in America is that there is such a melting pot of styles. But there is always a look – a strong look. Whether it is uptown or downtown, East or West coast, there is always a strength and reality to how women dress here.”
With an element of playfulness the Dior Creative Director took the scarf, a long-standing lady-like staple, and constructed it within the garments giving the collection a hand-made feel; large patchwork furs added to this homespun element that was twisted into more contractually tailored outerwear, skirts and dresses throughout the collection.
