BULGARI: FULL GLARE

Bulgari are back with a new collection of glasses your Autumn/Winter.

Sometimes, when you get it right, a glance can say more than a hundred strung-together swears ever can; can blow all the candles out in a Venetian Basilica, can short circuit all of Shanghai’s lightbulbs. A look – the perfectly pitched one – is “excess” in excelsis. Luxe jewellery brand Bulgari’s high art ambassadress, Isabella Rossellini, alchemized a frozen, lustful glare as Dorothy Vallens in Blue Velvet, for example.

This winter, the 1884-founded house launch The Diva Eyewear Collection – a pair of lavish, carnivalesque creations. The first is tampered with gold, silver and coated in a silky lavender acetate. Its lush pink-purple lens makes for harrowing Death-Becomes-Her-era-Meryl-esque glares, too (not that we’ve been practicing, or anything). They step up the elegant Chola vibes for the second set, whose lateral holding pole is Moulin Rouge with an extra shot of oppressive, Eighteenth Century Absinthe. It can of course be detached, leaving behind a perfectly excellent white and gold diamond-bejeweled shade.

This, plus the brand’s new Diva Bag: an exquisite accompanying piece. Think crocodile leather available in a number of palettes, think the staple Bulgari Serpenti motif, think a lapis lazuli, amethyst and jade-coloured lock: as with anything Bulgari, attention to detail, divine featurettes and priceless craftsmanship take precedent. Now, about that Absinthe…
