BRAND BUZZ: ROBERT STOREY FOR OPENING CEREMONY

Opening Ceremony’s Covent Garden store welcomes the geometric, candy-coloured sculptures of set designer Robert Storey.

Opening Ceremony is a brand that loves quirky edges (look at its collaborations with femme de quirky Chloe Sevigny), so its new installation collaboration with infamous set designer Robert Storey seems only natural. The installation, dubbed “Folded Reflections Suspended,” features three kinetic sculptures hanging eight meters above the atrium of the brand’s Covent Garden store.

The sculptures, while mesmerising, seem to magically fit with Opening Ceremony’s funk-filled aesthetic: “I wanted to create an installation for Opening Ceremony that would sit harmoniously inside the store whilst also attracting shoppers attention,” says Storey of the installation. “I hoped to create something which could reflect my style and also emphasise the playful charm in the brands identity.”

Storey, a Central Saint Martins graduate, has a long history with fashion, working on commercial and editorial features for the likes of Chanel, Stella McCartney and Vogue. But Opening Ceremony, with its colourful, fun show space, is perhaps the most harmoniously quirky of all.

The Robert Storey installation with Opening Ceremony will be in place until January 2014.
