7 WONDERS: MODELS WHO WENT FROM LONG TO SHORT HAIR

Coco Rocha had hair so long that it look like a weave, then she cut it all off now she look like Eve.

First Beyonce debuted her short blonde crop, then Coco Rocha made the decision to chop her brunette tresses off. Clearly, there’s something in the air that’s driving supermodels and starlets alike to the styling scissors. Or maybe it’s something in the hair… Okay, we’ll stop there. But as this list proves, models are no stranger to the empowering qualities of a severe crop. And if you’re in bad need of a hair update, there’s no better inspiration than the following ladies.

Karlie Kloss with long and short hair

1. Karlie Kloss

The modern face of “short hair can be hot, too” phenom. Slammed by some Victoria’s Secret fans as not having sexy enough tresses to merit her angel wings, Kloss has proved defiant in the face of criticism. “There are girls out there with every body type and there are girls out there with every hair type,” she said. “You can be sexy with short hair!” We co-sign.

Abbey Lee with long and short hair

2. Abbey Lee Kershaw

The Australian model-turned actress is no stranger to dramatic hair changes – she once dyed her hair a blinding shade of platinum blonde – but we loved her slightly subtler long bob (below right), christened by some as the Kob. Most recently, she’s been snapped with bright pink hair. Chloe Norgaard can rest easy, though – the dye-job is for Kershaw’s role in Mad Max: Fury Road.

Edie Campbell with short and long hair

3. Edie Campbell

Campbell with long hair looks like butter wouldn’t melt in her mouth. Campbell with short, black shag cut just screams rock’n’roll. It’s a great way for her to break out of the ‘posh English’ model ghetto, and it worked. Can you imagine Marc Jacobs ever casting her in a campaign like this with her old hair?

Naomi Campbell with long and short hair

4. Naomi Campbell

Let’s not get it twisted: we know that Naomi – and Beyonce (although that’s been disputed) – probably don’t cut their hair. They change their weaves. But we still think that Naomi looked great with this shorter crop, and given how much flak she’s taken for her receding hairline, it might be time to bring back the more relaxed and less high-maintenance style.

Kate Moss with long and short hair

6. Kate Moss

At 25 years in the industry and still going strong, it’s safe to say that Kate Moss has undergone her fair share of hair transformations. She started off as a long-haired, fresh-faced muse to Corrine Day, but her hairdresser BFF James Brown chopped it all off into a pixie cut in the early 2000s. Now she’s settled on a mid-length cut, and she looks even better than before. No wonder she’s just been named the new face of Kerastase.

Tao Okamoto with long and short hair

5. Tao Okamoto

It’s hard to imagine Tao without her signature mushroom cut, but she started off with long tresses. “My hair was really long, but I wanted to cut it because all Asian girls have the same hairstyle— long, black, straight hair,” Tao explains. The cut proved so influential that Phillip Lim had all his runway models’ wigs styled to match Okamoto’s bob in a 2009 show.

Linda Evangelista with long and short hair

7. Linda Evangelista

The original “cut it off and boost your career” model. When Evangelista scored her first modeling contract at 16 with Elite, a photographer told her she should cut her hair short. When French hairstylist Julien d’Ys chopped off her locks, she cried, claiming it looked like a “bowl cut with sideburns”. Months later, she landed an exclusive L’Oreal Paris contract and was one of the most sought-after models in the business.
