BRIT School alumni Tawiah and her soulful voice has impressed everyone from Erykah Badhu to Mark Ronson. For Wonderland Sessions, she performs ‘Open Your Eyes’, a spellbinding acoustic version of a track from her upcoming mixtape FREEdom Drop.
Some singers might be content with singing with Guillemots and Erykah Badhu, but Tawiah was determined to follow her own path – and it’s one that led Mark Ronson to personally select her to front his band The Version Players while they were on tour. (No Amy Winehouse? No problem; Tawiah would sub in for Winehouse on ‘Valerie’.) The South London belle’s since been working on her mixtape FREEdom Drop, which promises the same blend of potently nostalgic soul, toughened up by sultry R&B beats and electronic pop.
