Not every artist wants to paint a whole block in a crime-ridden neighbourhood – but seeing as Haas&Hahn are best known for vibrantly transforming a Rio slum through their block-wide murals, they were up to the challenge. Check out our exclusive pics and video here.
“You get the opportunity to paint a whole street? Fuck it, we’re gonna grab that,” so says Dre Urhan, one half of street art duo Haas&Hahn. The only problem was, the street was in one of the most deprived areas in Philadelphia. Under the pair’s Philly Painting project, the neighbourhood received a much-needed facelift and brought some serious joy to the lives of its residents. The mini-documentary, presented by HUB Footwear, follows the pair as they transform one of the most infamous streets in Philly into a living, breathing painting.
To commemorate the achievement, HUB is producing a limited-edition trainer in burgundy – the official Philly colour – and is plunging all proceeds of the trainers into the new Haas&Hahn project: Return To Rio – which will see the two mobilise the residents of Rio de Janeiro to paint a whole mountain.
