PREMIERE: FOOTPRINTZ – “THE FAVOURITE GAME”

God bless Canada, the great US-beating nation that’s produced everyone from Grimes to Drake – and without the gun crime, too. So make way in your musical collection for Footprintz, the Montreal duo signed to dance label du jour Visionquest. We debut their sleazily slinky new single The Favourite Game.

Footprintz

So who are Footprintz? How did you guys meet?

Footprintz is an idea that everything in the universe can be divided by 5. We met by the lake near the cabin.

What was the first song that you guys ever did together, and how do you feel about it now?

‘Miss October’ and I still bear the lyrics sometimes when I’m drunk.

Both of you are from Montreal. Canada’s produced some amazing artists recently – Grimes, etc – what’s happening over there? Is Canada an especiallymusic-friendly country?

Canada is cold and there’s more snow in the winter there than anywhere and everywhere combined divided by five. You can’t always go out and it’s a better call to stay in, whiskey, and make music.

If you were to take us around Montreal for a day, what would you make us do?

I’d make you buy me dinner and stand on the mountain. Montreal is all about the mountain but the municipality acts abusive and dismissive to the poor girl. She used to be a volcano and I think there are special elements in her that are magical and if you tune in it can open your eyes.

What’s a typical day in the life of Footprintz, from morning to bedtime?

Lately – SH-101 programmed into the 909 rimshot trigger out. Also, playing soccer in Los Angeles parking lots until people tell me off. That’s really it besides the monster tub of hummus tripping in thefridge.

How would you describe the Footprintz sound?

Dedicated.

Why the name Footprintz, anyway?

Because if you say it 100 times and make a wish it will come true.

‘The Favourite Game’ is out now on a limited run of 12”, followed by a Beatport release on November 19th and general release on December 3rd. facebook.com/Footprintz.Music
