PREMIERE: DI’ZAIN – “PLAY THE GAME”

Jessie Ware might be up for a Mercury tonight, but it’s people like the mysterious Di’Zain who are taking up her lead and plunging our eardrums into welcomingly warm, sub-bass instrumentation and smooth R&B. We premiere the late-night artist’s first video, Play The Game.

Introduce yourself: what would you like people to know about you?

Di’Zain is a phonetic spelling of “design”. The project is inspired by creativity in film and art as well as music.

How would you describe your music in a sentence?

Late night melodies and soulful electronics.

What’s your sound influenced by?

Lapalux, Ango, the Velvet Underground, Gil Scot Heron, Fourtet, Blondie – the list goes on. Anybody whose innovating and exploring.

What’s the song Play The Game about?

Manipulative power of physical beauty – there’s more to sex than love.

What’s next for you?

The reaction to our first song has been really good. Ryan Hemsworth loved the track and wanted to do a remix, which I’m really excited about – it will be out in November so keep your eyes peeled! We’re also working on some more material at the moment, and are planning some live shows next year. We’ll see you then.
