NEW NOISE: STRIP STEVE

Electro wunderkind Strip Steve was only 18 when he was snapped up by the illustrious BoysNoize label. 5 years on, he’s toured the world and is ready to present his deput EP Micro Mega. Wonderland was lucky enough to score an exclusive stream.

NEW NOISE: Strip Steve

What’s been the highlight of your career so far?
I must say when I received the double gatefold vinyl of my debut album a couple of days ago, it was a pretty special moment for me…

How did you get picked up by Boysnoize?
I don’t how he landed on my (unknown) Myspace in 2007, but he heard three tracks I had on my player and sent me a private message to ask if i was up to release them on his label, BNR.

We hear you grew up a skate kid – is that right? How did a kid from Bordeaux end up listening to Californian punk?

Ahaha, what’s a kid from Bordeaux supposed to listen to? I grew up listening to so many different genres, first by phases, discovering each and then all together indiscriminately. Internet and peer-to-peer sharing helped a lot to provide music that wasn’t reachable in my local record store in Bordeaux.

What’s the one reliable floor-filler you can always rely on?

Kikumoto Allstars – I’ll Make You Jack.

What would you be doing if you weren’t in music now?

I have actually no idea… pretty sure still studying? I didn’t have the best grades in class, but always loved to go to school and learn stuff.

Why the name Strip Steve?

It comes from a Garbage Pail Kids card a friend gave me one day.

What are your biggest influences?

Chicago house, funk, disco, experimental pop music, futuristic sounds.

Berlin is probably the most happening place to be in Europe right now. What’s your favourite place in the city that people might not know about?

My studio. It’s small, packed, filthy, and full of fun.

What would be your dream club to play in?

Maybe in the Virgin Galactic flight? I heard they will hire DJs for those… It sounds a bit unrealistic, ahaha!

Describe Micro Mega in five words.

Full, chill, hyper, micro, mega. But you can stream it right here i heard, so make your own idea of it.

What’s the worst gig you’ve ever played?

Boise, USA. A very very small town, where my music absolutely unknown. Me and my friends did a DJ set there in a concert venue, around 8 pm. I think 3 people showed up.
