Save one billion trees in the Amazon and make a film while you’re at it? No sweat if you’re Lily Cole. Watch her directorial debut here.

From Body Shop ambassador to Yeah Yeah Yeahs video pin-up, Lily Cole has kinda done it all. But travelling to the Amazon to make a movie? That’s pretty new.

While filming her Sky documentary, Lily Cole’s Amazon Adventure, the model picked up an 8mm camera and set about filming her travels into the heart of the rainforest. The result? Wild Rubber: a charmingly lo-fi document of Cole’s encounters with everyone and everything in the Amazon jungle, whether it’s a rubber tapper or a tropical butterfly.

“Sky Rainforest Rescue is an initiative which I’m incredibly passionate about,” Cole said of the project, which is a collaboration between Sky and WWF that seeks to raise environmental awareness and aims to save one billion trees in Acre, Northwest Brazil. “I simply captured moments as we explored the area, shooting whatever drew my eye. I took a few hours early one morning to go into the forest alone, specifically to film.”

“The ants and the centipede, dragonflies and the butterflies are the stars of my little film! I feel like they often get over looked. The birds were pretty magical too! And lots of crazy leaves and trees. In a space so big and grand it felt special to look at the details that make it alive.”

It’s not the first time she’s devoted her energies to earth-friendly projects: Cole is a noted supporter of charities like Wateraid and the Environmental Justice Foundation. Environmental fans will also be pleased to note that in keeping with her environmental credentials, she wore a custom-designed Vivienne Westwood gown made of Amazonian wild rubber produced in Brazil.

Lily Cole kisses all the boys (and girls) and makes them cry in ‘Sacrilege’, the new music video from Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs have just dropped a music video to accompany ‘Sacrilege’, the first single off their upcoming record Mosquito, featuring a wholesome-looking Lily Cole in the kind of backwater American town that wouldn’t be out of place in Deliverance. Except – spoiler alert – she’s hooked up with all the locals, including the local sheriff. Not unlike Deliverance, everything gets very messy and it all ends up going very, very badly for Cole.

Mosquito is out on April 16th via Interscope.
