Vivienne Westwood: Press Day

14-04-10-by-alistair-guy-02914-04-10-by-alistair-guy-03014-04-10-by-alistair-guy-034

Westwood based her high-end Gold Label on fairy tales, Hansel and Gretel and Prince Charming. The look, pictured far left, is one her her personal favourites, but the rose-print dress is also a key piece.

Available from June is a collaboration with Lee jeans. The waxy silver pair (one for him and one for her) are also being held up. Mine are ordered.

The blankets look cosy, whether over a lap on the sofa; or around the shoulders once the summer is over (if it ever starts).

London Fashion Week: Vivienne Westwood

003redl_311redl_683

Dame Viv’s favourite place to visit in London is The Wallace Collection on Manchester Square. If you haven’t been you should go, I think it is the armoury that she is most taken by; but there is also lots of art, furniture and porcelain to be seen there.

She says she was inspired by ‘culture, classical music, books and paintings’ for her A/W10 Red Label collection, but I think that Westwood is always influenced by these things. The presentation was less - I want to say theatrical, but I think I mean rowdy - than usually, maybe she was letting the clothes do the talking.

Vivienne Westwood Anglomania Show

westwood-finalediane-lightdiane-screen

Paris has Gold, London (Fashion Week) has Red and Selfridges - tonight in the store’s car park — had Anlomania. The younger Westwood line has the Dame’s trademark shapes and drapings, but is designed from more affordable fabrics (around £150 for a skirt). Knowing the London party scene’s most experienced photographers has it’s pluses: we positioned ourselves directly in front of where Dionne Broomfield would sing her acoustic set, following the show. But unfortunately I didn’t take the lighting into account(middle pic), so I shot her on the screen (right). Dionne was fan-tas-tic!

They had children’s party nibbles including chocolate cornflake cakes; they gave us a badge when we left - and here are some of the S/S10 pieces…

Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010

I am going to blog a mini diary of my week here in Paris adding pictures and videos along the way if for nothing more than for my own amusement….

Day One…….Friday 2nd October

Christian Dior        (Show started at 3.05pm)

My first show of PFW was Christian Dior by John Galliano. Dita Von Teese was front row which for me is a never a good sign although as soon as the show began i could see why. The girls walked down the catwalk with set 40’s hair and a bright red lip with a huge industrial back ground behind them. The collection was a mix of sharp tailoring combined with slip dresses, french knickers and full length gowns beautiful constructed in sheer silks exposing provocative under garments. Although i have to say Johns Finale entrance was the winning look, all that was missing was the lamp post.

Vivienne Westwood (Show started 5.15pm)

The venue for Westwoods Spring/Summer 2010 show worked perfectly for the collection which was Marie Antoinette  meets Banjee girl in a street fight. There was also some great new prints, my favorite being a modern take on the Hawaiian print.

Lanvin - Show started at 6.23pm

Front Row: Janet miss Jackson if your Nasty!

As Westwood run quite late and Lanvin was across town I only just made it to the venue in time. Watching the show from the gods was actually quite good as you get to see the huge space in which the show is staged. At first I thought the show was going to be pretty much as expected but was pleasantly surprised as the bright colours started popping and the sequins sparkled. The Lanvin woman was still super hard but this season seems a bit more fun.

HOUSE OF CARDS FOR SHELTER

ron-arad-media-image king-of-clubs 5-clubs

An ultimate pack of cards has been created by some of the most creative names in British art, design and fashion in collaboration with Shelter in order to raise awareness of homelessness.  As part of the House of Cards campaign (created by Leo Burnett), Shelter invited some of the top creative thinkers in the country to customise playing cards to form a stunning set to trump all others and the full collection will now go on view in an exhibition begining tomorrow.  Visitors of the exhibition - which includes designs by artists Ron Arad and David Bailey, designers Vivien Westwood and Alexander McQueen and fashion photographer, Lacey - will be able to place silent bids on the artwork on display for a chance to own these one of a kind cards and raise money for the charity.

This higgledy piggledy set of pictures are snap shots of the limited edition postage stamp pendants by Vivienne Westwood. There will only be 300 made, and each will be numbered. One side of the highly polished silver stamp will carry imagery reflecting the history of one of the five cities - London, Milan, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Seoul; and the other is signed with the Vivienne Westwood Orb detail.
The idea is to celebrate Viv’s affection and growing association with her worldwide partners. Available early june.

Art Against Knives

art_against_knives_300x2301

On the 4th May, Shoreditch Town Hall will host one of the most diverse and endearing exhibitions to have ever  taken place in the East-End of London. Art Against Knives is a fusion of creative talent and a testament to the generosity and compassion of our home city, since unlike many other exhibitions in the surrounding area, proceeds from this event will not be going into the pocket of rich city slickers or Jay Jopling.

A year ago this August, 20-year old Central St Martins Student, Oliver Hemsley was stabbed by a group of youths at least eight times in an unprovoked daylight attack in London. Oliver’s heart and breathing stopped upon arrival at the Royal London Hospital, and despite being successfully resuscitated, he had to spend the next 134 days in intensive care, relying upon a life-support machine to keep him alive.

Thankfully, as a result of Oliver’s inspirational determination and the hard work of the medical team who treated him, his life is no longer in immediate danger and he has been moved to a specialist rehabilitation unit at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore, Middlesex. Unfortunately, due to the exten of his injuries, neither Oliver nor his family will ever lead a normal life again. Oliver’s spinal cord was partially severed in the attack, leaving him paralysed, with minimal movement below his nech. He will never walk again, and will require constant medical attention for the rest of his life.

Katy Dawe is a close friend of Oliver’s and also the driving force behind this incredibly ambitious event. The remarkable thing is that she is trying - with incredible strength and determination, to salvage something positive from Oliver’s tragic story by focusing on everything that Oliver loves so much in life. The aim of the two-day event is to spread the word about what has happened in the heart of our community, as well as to raise money and provide Oliver with everything he will need in the future. To date the response has been phenomenal with donations from Antony Gormley, Vivienne Westwood, Rankin and a whole other host of other well known and aspiring creative artists. Let’s hope that the event raises an earful of money - p.s. how clever is the advertising poster?

I’m Watching You

mandi-crow

A flock of crows descended upon the Mandi Lennard press day today and sat guard. They particularly watched over Roksanda Illinic’s sumptuous gowns; the Melissa shoes by Vivienne Westwood, which I ordered in blue; Gareth Pugh’s men and womenswear; and Henry Holland’s collection, which was housed in a house. Typical Henry.

Kap Bambino.

Kap Bambino are flavor of the month in music land, having been featured in almost every trend magazine whilst also featuring in Matt Irwin’s 2007 film for Armani Exchange and squeezing the time to shoot with legendary photographer Nick Knight. They are an impressive live act with a huge underground following in the US and France. With a sound comparable to Metronomy and Justice, you can expect to hear a lot from these two in the clubs this summer - unless you are raving it up at some chavvy ibiza love shack. Kap Bambino comes hand in hand with any grimy venue. Be prepared to sweat and shake your thing basically. I caught up with them to find out what all the fuss was about…

Why the name Kap Bambino?
It was just an accident. But it worked, so we decided to keep it.

You bravely established your own label. What were your reasons for doing so and did this additional responsibility negatively affect your creative output?

We decided to create our own label because we were already producing all our stuff. We didn’t want to send our demos into outer space through someone else. Its great,
there isn’t much additional responsibility because we only distribute to underground outlets. Its always been limited edition stuff, or things on vinyl.

Why do you think people listen to your music?
Why not?

You have been shot by some pretty iconic photographers. Is there anyone creative you would like to collaborate with?
Of course. What’s the name of that guy who did those photos of Vivienne Westwood? I want to do work with him.

Do you feel a pressure to succeed? What were your prior motives to setting up the band?
There is some pressure. Not the money! The total opposite. Just to put out music.

Who did you receive a lot of help from in the beginning?
No one. We did it all alone.

If your music could bring about one change, would would that change be?
For more people to appreciate philamonic orchestras.
