Paris Fashion Week: Louis Vuitton

For a company that doesn’t have sales (if you can’t afford Louis Vuitton full price, then you shouldn’t bother), they are very progressive in social networking, and sharing images to one and all.

Louis Vuitton was the first luxury goods brand to develop a fully integrated digital communications strategy ‘The Art of Travel By Louis Vuitton,’ which began with the launch of a Tweet on Twitter and the Facebook page www.facebook.com/louisvuitton. And this season the A/W10-11 show was available to see on Facebook or from an iPhone.

If you didn’t catch the show here are some highlights…

Paris Fashion Week: Chanel

“I’m from the north, I love the snow,” said Karl Lagerfeld, “and given the winter we’ve had, a little trip to the great north wasn’t a bad idea.”

They are basically Mutlugs, but teamed with Chanel tweed they are suddenly appealing - although, perhaps not the thigh-high ones. Lagerfeld calls these, and the trims around the jackets and dresses at the A/W1-11 Chanel show, ‘fantasy furs.’ The boots have transparent plastic to protect them from extreme weather conditions - unlike their poorer relations, the Ugg and Mutlugs, which are unwearable in the snow.

Even the evening wear, in flocked satin, pleated chiffon and lace was given snowballs pompoms, and tulle was embroidered with frosted camellias.

If Chanel is projection a cold winter 2010, then a cold winter it shall be.

Paris Fashion Week: Yves Saint Laurent

The guillotine was invented shortly before the French Revolution and was used in both war and peacetime in France. The executioners would wear capes over their heads, as a form of disguise, similar to those seen at Yves Saint Laurent’s A/W10-11, although decidedly less chic.

Cape-shapes in general were plentiful throughout the show, either: cropped; below-the-knee; black with slashes for arms; or pink satin.

The mainly black and white palette was interrupted with accessories in pinks, mustards, blues and purples - and the vibrant finale exits.

Paris Fashion Week: Moncler Gamme Rouge

Sitting on a red bus and traveling down Oxford Street, this week, I counted eight people wearing the a distinctive Moncler quilted jacket. And they don’t come cheap. This may explain the big production shows they have put on this season, a few weeks ago we had the impressive menswear show, and now the womenswear.
I’m gonna wear those googles to Selfridges next winter.

Kenzo’s show yesterday was a patchwork of prints and fabrics: jacquard wools, plaid and tartans were came together in loose, non-restricted sheets.

Riccardo Tisci looked to both the mountains and the sea, for his A/W10-11 collection. Knits including a modern Fair Isle twisted pattern (for the mountains), and neoprene trousers with scuba details: oversized zips and folded over waistbands (for the sea), were sent out together.

Save some sporadic splashes of red tones, the colour palette was kept stark - whites, blacks and beige.

Short shifts came in leather and lace and outerwear was tailored and oversized.

Paris Fashion Week: Dries Van Noten

Dries has been doing clashing prints for ages, well before this S/S - where it is everywhere.

He is also a huge fan of clashing fabrics through multiple layers. These included silk duchesse hand painted prints; over-dyed military; woven leopard; plastic and fine Swiss voiles.

The show notes read: ‘The smooth rigour of the 50’s meets with the rough freedom and subversion of the 70’s,’ not sure what that means, but liked the show as usual.

Not content with transforming our wardrobes, Acne are now branching into homeware with their first furniture line.  Upholstered with bleached and tinted denim, the furniture designs are made to order and are bespoke making them great personal and exclusive additions to anyone’s home.  Launched on Sunday at the Hotel Pozzo di Bargo in Paris, the furniture samples were a hit with exhausted fashion enthusiasts needing a seat during the hectic fashion week activities.  Here is a photo of Acne Creative Director Jonny Johansson resting in one of the Ance designs.
