You’ll often find two words emblazoned onto the dial of a watch: Swiss Made. But that doesn’t mean the soul of the watch and artisanal craftsmanship breathes only all things Swiss. Confirming its worldly view on watchmaking, Jaeger-LeCoultre comes to UK soil this month, showing up for London Craft Week 2024.

Let’s take it back a step for the horologically uninitiated. Jaeger-Le Who Now? Only one of the most enamoured watch brands in the game, dating back to 1833. Chances are you’ve clocked eyes with a watch that looks as though it spins round and hides its time-telling capabilities. Think Leo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Anya Taylor-Joy. That’ll be the Reverso, and it’ll be Jaeger-LeCoultre. If you’re tripping on the pronunciation (we’ve all been there) and aren’t on an 100-day Duolingo streak in French, I encourage you to practise here.

But less of the linguistics and more of the epic showcase taking place on London’s very own stage. London Craft Week is a city-wide festival that champions exceptional craftsmanship across varied disciplines from around the world. Cue Switzerland. Marking the tenth anniversary of the festival, JLC opens its doors to the Maison’s Old Bond Street boutique for an exclusive demonstration of watchmaking expertise on said Reverso watch — an Art Deco icon created in 1931.

Alongside this, the Michelangelo Foundation (a non-profit organisation championing contemporary craftsmanship) will present the work of twenty duos of creatives, who took part in the first edition of the Homo Faber Fellowship, a seven-month education programme supporting master artisans and craft graduates, supporting by Jaeger-LeCoultre. So if you’re feeling like you need to be inspired, you’re visiting the capital and stuck on what to do, or you want to know what it feels like to spin a watch around and feel one inch closer to Leonardo DiCaprio, then venture out to London Craft Week, from 14-18th May. Who knows, you might find you have watchmaking down to a fine art yourself. Future watchmakers at the ready.
