BARON

We speak to the French DJ and electronic producer as he links up with Mel Bundo for atmospheric new track, “Spacer”.

Baron, a renowned electronic music producer, has earned acclaim for his diverse musical influences, which range from jazz and afro house to disco. His extensive discography has garnered praise from industry heavyweights like Pete Tong, Bedouin, and Seth Troxler. Baron’s latest release, “Spacer”, is out on the esteemed label Get Physical and features a collaboration with his long-time friend Mel Bundo. The pair had previously teamed up on tracks for the label AZZUR.

“Spacer” is a vibrant track that combines deep house drums with a lively, bouncing bassline and smooth, warm pads. As the music develops, listeners are treated to a rich soundscape with mystical elements and Balearic-style acoustic guitar. The resulting vibe is unmistakably summery, making it a likely favourite in DJ sets this season.
Listen to the track…

With a busy European tour on the horizon, we caught up with Baron to discuss the inspiration behind “Spacer,” how he collaborated with Mel Bundo, and what listeners can expect for the rest of the year.

Hey Baron, how’s it going?

Hey guys, I’m doing great! I just got back from my Asia tour. I stayed a bit longer to take some vacation time before the summer season in Europe!

You’ve just dropped your newest release, “SPACER”. What are your thoughts on the track?

We’re really proud of the song. We wanted something groovy, emotional, and intense for the clubs. I hope music lovers will enjoy it!

Can you share your creative process for the track?

“Spacer” is produced from a disco sample from 1979. We were inspired by the string section, which is a key part of the original song. We worked around that to create this track.

You’re working with Mel Bundo on this. How did that partnership come about? And how does it feel to link up with Get Physical for this?

Simon, aka Mel Bundo, is one of my best friends. We’ve known each other for over 10 years. I met him in Paris, and a few years later, we started working together when he moved to Cannes. We quickly found that we had a similar musical vision, and I’m very proud of this collaboration for the first release of his new project. Get Physical is a label where I’ve always wanted to sign a track. I knew that “Spacer” would fit perfectly with this legendary label!

Where are you most looking forward to playing the track (events, clubs, festivals, etc.)?

I love playing the track in open-air venues, preferably. I also play it in clubs at the end of my sets because “Spacer” is an emotional track.

What do you have coming up next?

I have an album with my team Meloko, Konvex, and Selim Sivade from the Azzur label coming soon. The first single from the album will be released in June on AZZUR. Then I have an EP with Dorian Craft on Rufus Du Sol label.
