Hey Trikk! How’s it going?

Hello Wonderland, on this side, I’m busy, productive, and doing well.

You’ve just dropped your newest single, “Rigor”, what are your thoughts about the track?

I’d characterize it as a decompression track. It was one of the first ones I finished after the release of my album “Fauna & Flora” last year. There was this instinctual urge to create straightforward, yet striking, club music.

What does your creative process look like?

I would consider it rather minimalistic. I don’t own a studio or instruments. It can all happen anywhere, everywhere, whenever I take my laptop with me. I usually sit down at busy coffee shops and start experimenting.

In your opinion, what are the most important elements of making a track?

It all depends on the end goal. I tend to have a low-volume atmosphere shaping the mood that most listeners wouldn’t pay attention to, but it’s crucial to me. However, club music inherently needs a kickdrum and bass as their staples, whereas ambient music celebrates their absence. The purpose dictates the elements.

You have a background that spans Porto, Berlin, and London, how have each of these scenes influenced your music?

They impacted me greatly as both a person and a musician. My Portuguese and Mozambican roots are where I and my passion for music originated. While London broadened my horizons, it was Berlin that anchored me, providing the solid ground from which “Trikk” could push forward.

You started your live career at LuxFrágil (Lisbon), Robert Johnson (Offenbach) and Sónar/OFFSónar. What was your favourite venue to play?

So is this the feeling of having to pick your favorite child.

I would say Lux has an edge because it’s more meaningful to me and musically I have a deeper bond. Being one of the first clubs to take me on board and still to this day having my own nights there called “Mundo RItual”. But Robert Johnson is also special. It’s different, there’s an indefinable essence in the air that sets it apart, and whenever I play at Monasterio for Sonar/OFFsonar I feel at home.

What’s been your career highlight to date?

The highlight is simply living in it every day. It’s such a privilege to be self-sustained through music, to travel, create, think, and be immersed in it every day.

Can you give us a glimpse into any plans for the rest of the year?

Expect more singles throughout the year leading up to a club album format to be released on Innervisions. Plus is shaping up to be a collaborative year ahead, Dixon and I officially launch our project “Tri/xon” and there will be collaborations with Ame and Jimi Jules.
