VERA BOHL – “CARROSSEL”

The Düsseldorf-born pianist and composer focuses on the art of improvisation in her upcoming EP, “Carrossel”.

Refining her musical style through performances alongside Bon Iver, sharing stages with renowned artists, touring England, and collaborating with industry heavyweights such as Dido and Celine Dion, Vera Bohl now introduces her upcoming EP, delving into scenes and moments from her new residence in Portugal.

The highlight of the EP is the single, “A Liberdade” (translated as “The Freedom”), a reinterpretation of Claude Debussy’s “Clare de Lune”. Paying homage to the romantic notions of emotionally scarred lovers, “A Liberdade” is a piano rendition skillfully crafted and delivered by Vera’s talent.

Embracing the philosophy of living in the present moment, Bohl utilizes “Carrossel” as a platform for her improvisation, pushing the boundaries of her own abilities. The result is a captivating musical journey that blends classical and contemporary influences seamlessly, from the introspective opening notes of “Impromptu” to the tranquil final keys of “No Final”.

Vera speaks on the notion of improvisation, explaining “’In real time you go through various processes, where the demands of improvisation activate information processing and require precise coordination. Lower-level cognitive and motor processes become automated, allowing cognitive resources to be focused on more creative, higher-order elements.’
