Margot Robbie’s Barbie era is over! The Hollywood powerhouse is now set to produce a new film: The Sims. Here’s everything we know about her new ventures.

Calling all fans of The Sims! Following the record-breaking success of Barbie, Margot Robbie is now set to work on a cinematic adaptation of the 2000s game under her production company, LuckyChap, and in collaboration with Marvel director Kate Herron, who is co-writing the screenplay with Briony Redman.

As one of the best-selling video game franchises of all time — and one of the most dedicated fandoms out there! — it’s easy to say that expectations for what’s up Margot’s sleeves are high. She’s the force behind one of the hottest production companies in Hollywood right now, following the billion-dollar success of Barbie and Emerald Fennell’s internet sensation, Saltburn. LuckyChap will produce the feature along with Roy Lee and Miri Yoon of Vertigo Entertainment.

But, what can we expect from a movie based on The Sims? Unlike Barbie dolls, Sims are animated and relationship-based characters, allowing players to experiment in a life simulation, fulfilling characters’ needs and desires. They’re programmed to imitate our most elementary feelings and emotions — a Barbie can’t be angry at you when you burn her food or forget to water her plants, but a Sim certainly will!

But much like Barbie, The Sims have no autonomy, and the game has no specific narrative, allowing players to experiment with real-life fantasies (or should we call it intrusive thoughts?) through their avatars — Sims killers, we’re speaking to you. When it comes to the cast or the studio that will take over the production, answers are still up in the air. So, for now, no confirmation if we’ll see Robbie speaking Simlish on the big screen.
