With this commitment to art, it is no surprise that The Mandrake introduced an Artist in Residence Programme several years ago. Back once again with open studio sessions, lectures, discussions, guided tours, and Q&As, Creative Director Maguelone Marcenac invited experimental composer Magnus Westwell to take up the first Artist Residency of the year.

Westwell’s residency will take place from April 8 to 14, during which the artist will take over the Masha Hari Theatre, composing and recording new music in response to movement by dancers Oscar Li and Oceane Robin. The hotel will transform into a gallery itself — with ambient soundscapes, photography, and video footage filling the space. Throughout the week, Westwell will bring in guest dancers and artists to collaborate with as they work on a mass-choreography film project, out in autumn.
